Nimblewill Gap

From the entrance to Amicalola Falls State Park on GA 52 (Se Mile 8.8) go east on GA 52 ( compass northeast). In appproximately 7 miles, GA 52 bears right. Bear slightly left onto Nimblewill Church Road. In 1.2 miles go left on Nimblewill Gap Road. The gap and trail crossing are 7.3 miles further on this. The marker indicates the approximate location of the trail crossing. See pictures for GA Section 18 for a photo of the dirt parking area in the gap. According to the caption for that picture, the road is rocky but passable. From here the blue-blazed Approach trail goes north towards Springer Mountain or south towards Amicalola Falls. 06/22/14 Several

Amicalola Falls State Park
   Poor           Great

From GA 400 take GA 53 towards Dawsonville. Turn right on Hwy 183 (Elliott Family Parkway). Continue on Hwy 183 until it dead ends at GA 52. Turn right on GA 52. The entrance to the park is on the left in about a mile. The AT long term parking lot is across the street from the visitors center.

To get to the access trail, cross the street to the visitors center. As you get close to the visitor's center, follow the cement sidewalk to the right then turn left. After the bathrooms, turn left again then a right hand turn just before the interpretive talk area. An archway marks the beginning of the trail.
Southern Terminus Access Trail to the AT - 8.8 miles

This trail begins at the Amicalola State Park Visitor Center. It climbs to the top of Amicalola Falls (the trail is also called the East Ridge Trail) then crosses the road to the lodge and then climbs through the Amicalola watershed to Springer Mountain. 01/25/08

May 2010 The parking lot is located directly across from the visitor's center. Check-in at the visitor's center. They give you a card with your return date to put in your car window.
The only disadvantage to this lot is that you are starting out at the base of the falls. Not only a steep hike out, but a steep hike back in. 02/05/11

Turn left at the Visitor Center to Top of the Falls Road. Note this road is very steep. You can start at the top of the falls and cut about a mile off the hike to Springer. Park in the Hike Inn lot before reaching the Lodge, as the Approach and Hike Inn trails are the same for about 0.4 miles before the Hike Inn trail veers off to the right. 05/05/13 20
